Spain tourism envelops an exceptionally rich history, diverse landscapes, full-bodied wines, and delicious cuisine and lays them all at your feet. Your biggest and only anguish will probably be that there simply isn't enough time to enjoy it all in one vacation. From the ragged heights of the Pyrenees to the warm Mediterranean sun of Andalucia and the Canary Islands, Spain is a traveler's delight, no question about it.

The Offerings of Spain Tourism

Whether your interests run to art and architecture, wine and cuisine, bullfighting, history, or outdoor activities, you'll find that Spain tourism offers all of it and more. Hans Christian Anderson dubbed the ancient city of Barcelona "the Paris of Spain" in 1862, and it's not hard to understand why. Beautifully and strategically placed between the Mediterranean and the mountains, Barcelona contrasts remarkably with the capital city of Madrid. Madrid was established only during the 16th century, and is unique among major cities of any era for not being built around a city or port.

From the narrow streets of Pamplona and San Sebastian, to the Moorish architecture in Andalucia and the ragged beauty of Galicia and the Pyrenees, there's much to explore. Culinary specialties of the north include Galician beef, Atlantic seafood, and Navarre peppers. Central Spain--dotted with Crusader castles, marked by a dry climate, freezing winters, and sweltering summers--offers a cuisine based on meat, particularly pheasant, wild boar, and venison, and hearty red wines.

Spain tourism also offers the Canary Islands off Africa and the Mediterranean Balearics, once you've "finished" with Andalucia and the rest of the Mediterranean coast. The well-known fortified sweet wines of Spain--sherry being the best known--arose in the southern provinces, many of them founded in the 1800s by the English and Irish. No matter where you are in Spain, however, your schedule will be full and the experience delightful!
