Planning a group vacation requires attention to detail, organization, and excellent communication skills. If you've ever been in charge of planning anything from a family reunion to an overseas wedding, you know how difficult it can be to get all of the guests on the same page. As a group traveler planner, you will serve as a liaison between the members of your party and the travel providers.

One of the first things you need to do when planning a group vacation is determine your destination. The final destination depends on a number of different factors including budget, availability, activities, amenities, and special discounts. Your travel date influences all of these factors, so you need to set a date and stick to it.

Vacation Planning: Phase One

If you're planning a group outing and you're not sure where to go, it's a good idea to present a few different ideas to your group. The local library is a great resource for travel books and videos. You can also search online for information about different travel destinations. If you're travelling abroad, you might want to contact the country's foreign embassy for additional tourist information.

If you have narrowed down your choices to three or four destinations, you can create sample itineraries and present them to your group. Your sample itinerary should include a listing of daily activities and nearby attractions. It's also a good idea to present three budget proposals at this time.
