There are hundreds of Big Island tours that you can book during your Hawaiian vacation. In fact, tours are an excellent way to tailor your trip to specific interests, and learn much about Hawaiian history and culture in the process. Tours can be pre-booked through a travel agent, and this is recommended for the more popular tours, though some require no reservations and can become spontaneous adventures.

Popular Big Island Tours

One of the best ways to see the scenic splendor of the Big Island is by way of helicopter tour. Experienced pilots can take you over the waterfalls of the Kohala Coast, the famous volcanoes with their ever-changing landscapes and the two thousand-foot cliffs of the Waipio Valley. A guided hike through the Volcanoes National Park is an educational, unforgettable journey to the world's largest active volcano, Kilauea. Another possibility is a submarine tour through the coral reefs of the Kona Coast.

A full-day bus tour that circles the Big Island is a great way to get to know this island and its many attractions. Visit the plantations and waterfalls, the lava tubes and the historic towns and villages of Hawaii. The Parker Ranch is another popular destination. This is one of the largest cattle ranches in the United States, and has a long and interesting history. Whale-watching tours at sunset are an unforgettable way to end the day.

Big Island tours are available all year round, so there is always something exciting to look forward to. Of course, some activities such as whale- and bird-watching may be dependent on the time of year, so check with your local rental or travel agent first. He or she can advise you on the proper clothing and accessories to bring that will make your Big Island tours more comfortable and enjoyable.
