Kaanapali Golf Course

The beautiful and historical Kaanapali Golf Course stands out among the many courses that make their home on the island of Maui. When I played this one, I was conveniently staying at the Kaanapali Beach Resort. This choice was perfect because I didn't have to waste any time hopping on the course in the morning.

Not only is Kaanapali Golf Course one good-looking place to be, but it's been home to a few professional tournaments. The Senior PGA Kaanapali Classic and the LPGA Kemper Open were both held at this course. With its 36 holes and magnificent climate, it makes a great place for tournaments.

The Kaanapali Golf Course Is Really Two Courses

In order to cater to pros and non-pros alike, Kaanapali has two courses. The first is the Tournament Course. It opened in 1962 and is one of only two in Hawaii to be designed by the distinguished Robert Trent Jones, Sr. Its sloping fairways and big, contoured greens were designed to challenge even the top professionals.

The course that I was playing on (so as not to feel like a total loser) was the Resort South Course. Like the Tournament Course, it's a par 71, but the greens are softer, with slight hills and rolls, making it more suitable for all levels. Plus, it's lined with native flowers and coconut trees--a fantastic Kaanapali golf course.
