Kauai SurfingWritten by Tara Peris Compared to other islands, Kauai surfing attracts relatively less attention. Although the big name beaches of Maui and Oahu typically garner the accolades, Kauai has every bit as much to offer. With warm water and ideal conditions year-round, surfing remains a preferred vacation activity on the island. One of the best things about Kauai surfing is the range of opportunity it affords. Waves come in all sizes, allowing just about everyone to enjoy a piece of the action. In particular, the South Shore beach of Kuhio is known as an excellent spot for beginners because of its favorable winds and mellow breaks; more competitive waves can be found on the North Shore. Kauai Surfing and Boogie Boarding For those not inclined toward the rigors of surfing, boogie boarding remains a popular alternative. Somewhat safer and easier to learn, boogie boarding is an ideal activity for tourists. With the big swells characteristic of the region, vacationers are bound to get an adventure no matter what they choose.
