Kona Beach Condos Near National Parks

Kona Beach condos are located near one of the most famous Hawaiian National Parks, Pu`uhonua o Honaunau. This park, otherwise known as "The place of refuge" has great historical meaning and attracts many of the visitors that stay in the Kona area. At some point during your stay in Hawaii, a short visit to this landmark is definitely in order.

The park is 182 acres and was established as a park in 1961. Within this land there are many ancient remnants such as royal fish ponds, sledding tracks, temple platforms and a few coastal village sites. While some of these have been reconstructed their locations have not changed. One of the most famous reconstructions is the Hale O Keawe temple.

A Place of Refuge

This park has a great historical importance for the many years that Hawaii's chiefs lived on its grounds. History says that Hawaiians came to the Place of Refuge to be absolved of their sins. As most wrong doings were punishable by death, the trip Pu`uhonua o Honaunau needed to be made quickly.

Once at the site, Hawaiian citizens would be absolved by a priest and freed from any punishment related to their crimes. As you can imagine a great many stories originate from this sacred land. When reserving your Kona beach condos, be sure to ask how to get to the park and what the associated fees are.
