Hotels In Chicago

There are enough hotels in Chicago, the country's third most populous city, to keep the tourists coming in droves, even during the notoriously brutal winters. Like other Great Lakes cities such as Detroit, Milwaukee, and Green Bay, the Windy City suffers from a "Lake Effect" that drives frozen winds off the water and makes temperatures feel some 30 to 40 degrees colder than they actually are. Street-dwellers have essentially two options: take refuge or wait for frostbite and hypothermia to set in.

So why would several million otherwise-happy folks voluntarily touch down at O'Hare and Midway each winter in the name of recreation? Namely, to partake of one of the most dynamic, diverse, and international cities in the U.S., a metropolis that brings together Irish, Italians, Poles, Russians, and a multitude of other peoples and offers up legendary bratwursts, deep-dish pizza, and first-rate slabs of beef to boot. Tourists also flock to take in Cubs, White Sox, Bears, Blackhawks, and Bulls games, even if the post-Michael Jordan era has been a non-stop rebuilding effort.

More on Hotels in Chicago

With so many distractions competing for your attention, there's one thing you'll be relieved not to have to think about: your hotel accommodations. Whether you're looking for a penthouse view along Lakeshore Drive, a convenient base in the River North District, or a cozy escape along Magnificent Mile, the hotel impresarios of "Chi Town" have got you covered. Wrap yourself in luxury at the world-famous Peninsula Chicago opposite the city's historic water tower, or shack up at the Drake or Talbott for a solid four-star experience.

Whichever route you select, expect to find attentive service and smart interior design, not to mention reasonable rates, throughout downtown and its surrounding neighborhoods. It's easy to forget that hospitality is one of the city's core industries along with meat-packing and manufacturing, and one that has vaulted many hotels in Chicago to the top of nationwide "Best Of" lists. Whether you're visiting on business or pleasure, hotels in Chicago abound that suit your budget and style. Windbreakers, however, are not included.
