Bologna Accommodation

Bologna accommodations that are affordable and available are not easy to find. Though foreign tourists may not have discovered Bologna yet, local business people certainly have. Its strategic location between Florence and Venice has made Bologna a prime spot for trade since the beginning of recorded time, and so it remains today. Trade shows are scheduled all year long in Bologna, and take place from March through May, and from September to December.

Bologna accommodations are limited for another simple reason: not enough demand. Tourist numbers are practically insignificant compared to those Venice, Verona or Florence. To offset the losses suffered the rest of the year, hoteliers raise the prices of rooms to sky-high levels when trade shows come to town, which happen roughly the same time as tourist season.

Bologna Accommodations: Advantages to Country Hotels

Though a trip to Bologna is more than worth the time it takes to get there, it's best to acknowledge the limited Bologna accommodations, and take a place slightly out of town. Anywhere less than an hour away could be considered manageable. Plus, a more centrally located Bologna accommodation would make daytrips to Venice, Chioggia, Verona, or the Delta del Po much more convenient.

There are multiple benefits to staying in hotels, apartments or villas located outside of Bologna proper. Accomodations situated just out of town are both available and less expensive. The rolling Italian countryside is extremely picturesque. And staying in a more rural environment, even if it is close to all the cities, may provide a glimpse into Italian rural life that you wouldn't get to see otherwise.
