A true family vacation means taking along everyone that matters, and, today, that can include pets as well as kids! Sometimes finding pet-friendly lodgings can be difficult, but in Lake Tahoe, there are many options for those whose families include furry four-legged members. In fact, it's possible to find pet-friendly lodgings right here online.

Finding Pet-Friendly Lodgings

In addition to some hotels and motels that provide accommodations for pets, there are also private rentals, cabins, lodges, and bed and breakfast inns that will accept pets. Many of these rental cabins, summer homes, and lodges advertise online. When travelling with pets, it's important to find out in advance what special provisions will have to be made. These can include additional fees and deposits, special carriers and crates, extra charges for pet bedding, and charges for cleaning if there are any accidents.

Some pet-friendly accommodations require that pets be kept quiet at all times, especially in hotel and motel settings. Others, such as private homes, require that pets not be allowed to dig or leave surprises in backyards and flower gardens. It's usually up to the visitors to make sure that pets are on their best behavior.

Even if you find a website stating that pets are welcome, it's a good idea to talk to a live person before you reserve the lodgings. In some cases, cabins, houses, or motels change hands, and ads may not be updated. Be sure you know in advance what is expected of pet owners, what pets will cost, where to find the nearest veterinarian, and how to contact a representative or staff person in case of a problem. Some pet-friendly lodgings even offer pet sitters, outdoor kennels, runs and more. Again, the more you know before you go, the better.
