One of the most beautiful vacation areas in the Tahoe area is the South Shore, on the California side of the lake. There, visitors can enjoy access to winter sports in the Sierra Nevadas as well as a wide range of summer activities. A number of great hotels and resorts, including nearby Nevada casinos, are located in the area (other lodging choices include luxury private rentals, condos, and cabins).

South Lake Tahoe Attractions

With 14,000 acres of great ski terrain, the South Lake Tahoe region is a remarkable winter sports playground. Hikers, skiers, and nature lovers are all amazed at the beauty of this wonderland. At Emerald Bay's D.L. Bliss State Park, visitors can see the Vikingsholm Castle and Fannett Island. Scuba diving is available, and there is even an Underwater Park to explore, including several sunken boats dating from the 1800s.

At Emerald Bay Road, visitors can enjoy tours of the historic Tallac Site where the estates of several wealthy local families are open to the public. The homes and a museum are available for tours. For bikers and boaters, rentals are an option. Lake sightseeing cruises and dinner cruises are also available. For the tiniest kiddies, Magic Carpet Golf at Lake Tahoe is a great place to introduce them to the sport. It's also a great place for group picnics, birthday parties, and get togethers.

There a dozens of great restaurants in South Lake Tahoe, including a wide range of food varieties such as Mexican, Japanese, Italian, and more. Whatever type of lodgings visitors are seeking, from luxury retreats to rustic cabins, it can be found in this world-class resort area. Tahoe even boasts AAA three-diamond rated resort homes.
