Grand Canyon Tour From Phoenix

Taking a Grand Canyon tour from Phoenix should not be an impossibility, as Phoenix is only about a five hour drive from the Grand Canyon. You could even hop on a shuttle plane and be there in an hour, if you have rigid time constraints. If driving, take Interstate 17 North from Phoenix to Flagstaff, and then from Flagstaff take Route 180 northwest to the canyon.

The South Rim is open year round for your enjoyment. Experience it through nature walks and mule rides into the canyon, or take a Grand Canyon bus tour and drive around it's scenic edge. The North Rim is open from mid-May through October depending on weather conditions.

Camping and Grand Canyon Tours

If you are going to camp overnight and take a Grand Canyon tour from Phoenix, it is highly recommended that you make park reservations. There are three campgrounds operated by the National Park Service at the South Rim. Some have hot showers, laundry service, a full service store, and portable water.

Other sites do not have hot showers or RV hookups, so it is wise to call in advance to find out which campsites offer the services you need. Reservations are strongly recommended and should be made as far in advance as possible, as spaces fill-up quickly. However, keep in mind that reservations cannot be made more than five months in advance.
