San Pedro Belize on Ambergris Caye

San Pedro Belize is the largest settlement on the largest caye (island) in the country. With a population of about 7,000, this picturesque village is set on the most popular visitor destination in Belize. Ambergris Caye lies just inside the 200-mile-long Belize Barrier Reef that creates unrivaled diving, snorkeling, fishing, and windsurfing.

Given that Ambergris is a magnet for visitors, it follows that it has the greatest concentration of hotels, lodges, and bungalow accommodations in Belize. Surrounded by clear, azure waters, Ambergris Caye Belize is bordered by beaches so white they hurt your eyes in the bright tropical sun! On the balmy Caribbean lies San Pedro, the commercial hub of activity on Ambergris.

Fresh Seafood and Cold Beer

What do you want for mementos of unforgettable Belize vacations? San Pedro probably has it: postcards, T-shirts, shells. You can also purchase works by Belizean artists who vividly portray life and nature in Belize. Residents of San Pedro Belize are mostly of Mexican descent, but, in addition to Spanish, they speak English, which is the official language of the country.

For beautiful weather, spectacular water sports, and sparkling turquoise water, head for this jewel off the shores of the Belizean mainland. San Pedro has quaint houses painted bright colors and placed along sand streets. True to its role as a center of world-class diving, the town has a compression chamber to treat diving illnesses. Ambergris is one large beach community with typical casual living and dress, and it offers the lucky visitor fabulous seafood, cold beer, and great accommodations at a moderate price.
