Louisiana bed and breakfast options abound. If you want a taste of the antebellum South, you will be delighted with the number and quality of great plantation bed and breakfasts in the area surrounding New Orleans. Within a short drive from the city, you can get to the River Road area where you will be able to tour and/or stay at many of these magnificent homes.

New Orleans area plantation bed and breakfasts are as different as the families that owned them. Some of the main buildings are still homes to families descended from the original owners. You may even find one of these that offers bed and breakfast services within the plantation house itself. You can find photos and information about these getaway delights right on the Internet.

Check out St. Francisville and Donaldville, both home to several great bed and breakfasts. One of the River Road plantations that is exceptionally beautiful is the recently restored Poche Plantation. Built in the late 1800s, the last of the great Mississippi River plantations, Poche Plantation offers guided tours and lodging in its surrounding cottages.

This plantation is a fine example of Victorian design. It was built by Judge Felix Pierre Poche whose Civil War diary is still recognized as a an important work due to its excellence, the information it imparts, and its view of the war from the perspective of a Confederate soldier. The Poche is a delightful Southern home with several exquisite cottages on the property, filled with period furniture and discreetly providing modern amenities.
