Things To See In New York City

As funny as this may sound, many people come to New York just to get lost in the crowds for a few days. Although many of the famous landmarks are what draw tourists into the city, an equal number of people come to Manhattan to enjoy some gourmet dining, world-class shopping, or some entertaining Broadway shows. Others come to watch the taping of a television show, while others visit to check out some of the popular museums, like the Museum of Modern Art, for instance.

Still others come to visit simply to do some people watching and to take in the liveliness of the city. If you have never been to Manhattan, it is an experience you will not likely forget. The first time I visited the city, it was pouring rain outside, I had no umbrella, and no matter what I did, I could not hail a cab. In frustration, I finally stopped and asked a street vendor how to make a cab stop for me. His reply went like this: "Step off the curb and put yourself out there." I thought he must be nuts, but I did as he asked and you know what? I got a cab.

While in New York, I watched the taping of the morning talk show The View, and then headed out for lunch with a girlfriend who lived in the city. I was amazed at the constant motion all around me, and the different languages I heard from one city block to the next. I could not believe some of the extravagance of Park Avenue, and was even more amazed at the poverty on other city blocks. Manhattan is certainly a big mix of rich and poor, famous and not-so-famous faces, as well as various cultures and languages.

Visit New York for a Taste of Diversity

Perhaps there is nowhere else in the United States that is as diverse as Manhattan. If you simply want to escape your everyday routine for a day or two, I would highly recommend a trip to New York City. You will be in awe of your surroundings, as I was on that rainy April day. More than likely, you will leave wondering when you can return again for an encore visit.
