The most frequent Hilton Head vacation villa rentals request is for an ocean view. The island offers about 19 miles of Atlantic coastline, so chances are that you won't have much difficulty in finding it. Just as attractive, however, are the vistas across its lush championship golf courses. The same is true of its harbors, marinas, lagoons, saltwater marshes, and freshwater wetlands.

The island is only 12 miles long and five miles wide. Sitting just off the South Carolina Coast, it has been extolled for its beauty in so many words since William Hilton surveyed it in 1663 and claimed it for the British crown. Just as eloquent are the 10,000 years of habitation that archaeological relics indicate. No matter what your choice of Hilton Head vacation villa rentals, you'll be washed by Atlantic breezes and a temperate climate.

The Pleasures of Hilton Head Vacation Villa Rentals

The island is renowned as a golf resort. Four courses--Colleton River, Haig Point, Harbour Town, and Long Cove--rank among the nation's top 100. Many others have received various regional awards. Many were designed by what amounts to a role call of the nation's top golf course architects. Those names include Robert Trent Jones, Tom Fazio, Arnold Palmer, Pete Dye, and Gary Player. Thanks to the lush and windswept nature of South Carolina's Low Country, their courses are both picturesque and challenging.

But golf is only one of numerous activities to enjoy while staying in any of Hilton Head vacation villa rentals. Fly fishing or sailing cruises might appeal to you more. Hilton Head offers almost as much tennis as it does golf. The island is crisscrossed with as many trails as it is with lagoons and stretches of wetlands and grasslands. You might prefer biking or hiking these to get the best look at the habitats and diversity of wildlife.
