Mariposa Ranch

The Mariposa Ranch is a bed and breakfast inn located in the heartland of Texas. It gets its name from the ranch that surrounds the grounds; it dates from the turn of the century and is still in operation. Over time, other historic buildings have been brought to the ranch so now it resembles a small historic world of its own--you'll get a hands-on view of the 1800s.

Each room is filled with period antiques and furnishings--including great historic maps of early Texas--to complete the historic feel of the Mariposa. Don't worry, though; there are plenty of modern amenities, too. The 1825 log cabin, for instance, has a TV with built-in VCR, a microwave oven, and small refrigerator--we are pretty certain those are from a much later era.

How About a Weekend Getaway or Retreat?

Although close to the huge Houston metropolis, the Mariposa is secluded in a quieter part of the region. It's ideal for a nearby getaway: a wedding, a business retreat, or just a weekend in the country to listen to the crickets and look at the stars. It's small enough for romantic getaways for couples, but large enough to host seminars and family reunions, too.

The Mariposa is in Brenham, Texas, the "bluebonnet capital of the world" and home to the Antique Rose Emporium, a collection of roses and other native plants. Also in the area is Texas A & M, the George Bush Presidential Library, antique fairs, and plenty of nature, like Somerville Lake. It's the perfect place for someone who wants to do a little of everything or absolutely nothing at all.
