In this day and age a travel agent does so much more than book flights. Most agency classes provide students with entry-level training. When you finish these classes you will have the skills to use traditional booking software and other basic travel-related systems. If you want to be a travel affiliate, you need to learn so much more than the basics of the business.

One of the best ways to increase your earning potential as a travel agent is to concentrate on a home-based business plan. Some agents prefer to work for a few years under an agency, and then strike out on their own. Other agents prefer to start their home based travel agency after taking a basic course. You actually can start your own agency with very little initial investment, and start earning commissions and travel bonuses immediately.

Become an Independent Travel Agent

If you want to become a travel agent you need to be a high school graduate. Many people in the travel industry find it useful to become familiar with basic computer programs, and Internet marketing as well. The Internet is one of the most powerful tools in selling and marketing travel today. If you can navigate the Internet you can increase your overall profits tremendously.

As a writer, I spend a great deal of time working from home. I enjoy the freedom of making my own hours, and working independently. If this sounds appealing to you, you can set up your own travel agency with nothing more than a computer, a phone, and a "host agency." When you work as an independent contractor, you can earn as much or as little as you want.
