People who visit Ft. Lauderdaul have many activities from which to choose. They can play sports, witness fantastic thespian performances, and enjoy the relaxation of staying on the water. This Floridian city features dozens of public swimming and diving facilities, which visitors can enter.

Within thirty miles of Ft. Lauderdale, golfers can choose from dozens of PGA rated courses. There are both private and public country clubs throughout the state. Many Northerners travel to Florida to play golf during the cold weather months. Ft. Lauderdale resorts often feature tennis courts, and beach volleyball is another popular Florida pastime.

Ft. Lauderdale and the Cinematic and Performing Arts

Each year the Ft. Lauderdale Film Festival, which draws visitors from around the world, lasts 37 days, making it the longest cinematic celebration in the world. Hundreds of independent directors from all over the globe have the opportunity to show their films in Ft. Lauderdale. The Festival focuses on first-time filmmakers who have artistic, rather than commercial, goals. 2004 will be the 19th anniversary of the first festival. The Festival covers all genres of film, from documentaries to short films.

Vacationers who appreciate live performances can visit the Ft. Lauderdale Arts and Entertainment District. The Broward Center for the Performing Arts and the Florida Grand Opera are just a few of the theaters located in the area. Theatergoers are treated to professional performances of both classic and new plays.
