Your neighbor Brick is pulling all the clementines off his tree before the freeze tonight. He drops off approximately 50 at your door. You have no idea how you can get through them. Can you share some with your pup?
Yes. Clementines are a safe treat in moderation. Be sure to remove the peel and any seeds before offering your dog a couple of segments. Seeds pose choking and internal blockage issues especially for small dogs. Never give your dog the entire fruit with or without the peel. Never allow your dog access to discarded peels. Citrus peels contain compounds that are toxic to dogs.
Be aware that clementines like many other fruits are loaded with sugar. If you plan on offering some citrus to your furry friend, be sure to limit the amount you offer. Adding too much sugar to your dog’s diet can lead to excessive weight gain and obesity. Dogs that have diabetes or are overweight should not have clementines.
Clementines also have lots of fiber. Too much fiber can cause digestive issues for your pup including diarrhea. Always monitor your pup after introducing new food or treats. If issues arise, contact your vet.
