Peach salsa, peach popsicles, peach sangria, pretty much add peach to anything and it makes it better. This fuzzy delicious fruit can be found anywhere in the summer. With the possibilities of peach-izing all your favorite dishes, can you possibly offer some to your pup?

Yes, with proper preparation fresh peach in moderation is an acceptable treat for your pup. Like most fruit, peaches have a decent amount of sugar. Limit the amount you offer to your pup to avoid upset stomach and other digestive issues. 

To give your pup some peach, wash the skin or remove it. Large pieces of the skin can pose a choking hazard, so use your discretion. Remove the pit. Cut the flesh into small chunks for your dog. Offer a small amount at a time. 

Do not allow your dog access to the pit for several reasons, it poses a choking hazard and an internal blockage risk. But worse it contains amygdalin, a sugar cyanide compound. When this compound is chewed by dogs and enters their stomach bile it reacts to create cyanide. If your dog consumes a pit, contact a vet immediately.

If you are unsure if your dog has eaten a pit monitor your pup for signs of tremors, seizures, labored breathing, blood in diarrhea, dilated pupils, and smell of bitter almonds in mouth. If you see any of these symptoms, get to a vet immediately. These are signs of cyanide poisoning. This warning also goes for peach stems and leaves. 

Additionally do not give canned peaches to your pup. The excess sugar and preservatives are not suitable for dogs.
