Causes of Bronchitis

The most common cause of bronchitis is a viral infection, but bacterial and fungal infections can also cause this condition. Other causes of bronchitis include exposure to irritants such as cigarette smoke, air pollution, dust, and chemicals. People with weak immune systems, such as young children and the elderly, are also at a higher risk of developing bronchitis.

In addition to the aforementioned causes, certain medical conditions can also increase the risk of developing bronchitis. These include asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and cystic fibrosis. Additionally, individuals who have a history of frequent respiratory infections or who have a family history of bronchitis may be more susceptible to developing this condition.
