Episodic falling syndrome is muscle stiffness or collapse following exercise or excitement.

What Causes It?

Episodic falling syndrome is a recessive genetic disorder in Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. This condition does not seemly cause pain, but younger dogs who are new to the experience are often frightened.

How is It Diagnosed?

A vet will ask for a detailed description of the event. There is no specific testing for episodic falling, it can often be misdiagnosed as epilepsy. The two conditions require different medication.

What Are The Treatments?

There are treatments but there is no cure. There are several medications including Diazepam and Clonazepam that a vet may recommend.

Additionally, CBD treatments and acupuncture helped many dogs.
