Maybe, in moderation and depending on the food.
Vanilla imparts a delicious fragrance, flavor, and aroma to our cakes, puddings, and other sweet dishes. But can a dog eat vanilla?
Experts believe that the alcohol in vanilla extracts could harm a dog resulting in symptoms of poisoning such as vomiting and diarrhea. But it is okay to feed cooked or baked food items containing vanilla extracts, since the alcohol in the extracts gets evaporated, making the dish safe for our dogs.
It may be best to use natural vanilla bean when making homemade dog treats. Avoid using real/synthetic vanilla extracts, since most brands contain more than 35% alcohol and those can be harmful to our furry friends. Do not allow your puppy to lick vanilla extract.
A bit of vanilla ice cream is also okay to feed your dog in moderation but remember that ice cream is sugary and sugar is never good for dogs, in any form. You could also feed a bit of vanilla cake and pudding to your dog – but again, only in moderation.
To ensure your pet will live a long and healthy life, it is always a good idea to invest in pet health insurance. Preparing for the unexpected guarantees money is never an issue in keeping you pup healthy.
