We have seen many dogs eating pizza crusts and leftover pizzas from their owners’ plates but it is best not to do so.
Pizza is made using flour which could trigger allergies in some dogs. Symptoms of wheat flour allergy in dogs include itchy skin, hair loss, and dull coat. Some dogs could also suffer from gas and bloating due to flour-based foods like pizzas.
Also, some varieties of pizzas have ingredients like jalapenos or habanero peppers which can be very spicy to dogs. Even a small piece of these peppers can cause irritation to your dog’s mouth and stomach lining.
Moreover, pizzas also contain tomato sauce which is made using vinegar and – sometimes – onions and garlic. These foods are toxic to dogs, especially if eaten in excess. The sulfides in these foods can cause stomach issues like abdominal cramps, vomiting, and diarrhea in dogs.
Pizzas with extra cheese can be fattening for dogs and could even result in pancreatitis. Some dogs are also lactose intolerant and cannot digest cheese.
So, do yourself and your dog a favor and keep pizzas away from your dog.
To ensure your pet will live a long and healthy life, it is always a good idea to invest in pet health insurance. Preparing for the unexpected guarantees money is never an issue in keeping you pup healthy.
