It’s summer and Cousin Marjorie is coming for a visit. She said she’d bring some healthy snacks over for your dog. You love her, but Marjorie has always been a bit of an odd duck. She brought a cantaloupe. Can your dog actually eat it?
Yes, cantaloupe is a wonderful treat option for your dog.
Before you roll the whole thing over to your pup, there are a few things to do.
First cut the shell off of the melon completely. No matter how small you chop the shell it is a choking and internal blockage risk for your dog. Remove all the seed from inside the fruit, as they also pose choking and blockage risks. Lastly, cut the fruit into manageable pieces for your dog. Giving your dog an entire half melon or even half moons again poses choking risks. Small bites given slowly to your dog will help ensure your pup enjoys the snack without you needing to worry.
Fruit always has sugar in it. It is important to note that dogs that have diabetes or are obese should not be indulging in sweet snacks.
