Honey has been a favorite topping for generations. Can you pup enjoy some too?
Yes, honey is safe for adult dogs, in moderation. Puppies should not have honey. Just like babies, puppies do not have fully functional immune systems. Botulism spores that may occur in raw honey can majorly harm a puppy. Never introduce honey until your dog is fully grown.
As you may already know, sugar can cause lots of issues, tooth decay and obesity are the two easiest to correlate. These issues are not in humans. Dogs that are not getting enough exercise and are adding honey into their diet are at risk for obesity which in turn opens the door for many other health concerns.
Dogs who are diabetic should also refrain from any honey consumption. Again honey is very high in sugar, so if your dog does have some, moderation is key.
Many people use local honey to help cure their dog’s allergies. There is no finite evidence of this claim, however a little honey won’t hurt your dog. Additionally people offer it to their dogs to soothe throats during colder months.
Bark twice if this honey is working. Woof. Woof.
