It’s cheat day! You have been killing it at the gym. You have been on point with your calories and now it is time to have a little reward. You have a plate of fries and an ice cold cola. Time to dig in. But can your dog have some fries as a little treat too?
No. Fries are not something you should offer your dog. While they are not toxic and will probably be fine if they accidentally eat one or two, there are many reasons to avoid offering your dog fries.
Many dogs are allergic to white potatoes. If your dog accidentally eats white potatoes be on watch for hives, excessive itching or swelling.
French fries are almost always seasoned with salt which causes salt toxicity in dogs. Occasionally fries will also be seasoned with garlic or onion powder both of which are toxic to dogs.
The high fat content in fries can lead to inflammation, weight gain, and obesity. Obesity in dogs puts them at high risk for developing pancreatitis which is fatal.
You love your pup, so keep the harmful snacks far out of reach.
