You are at Wendy’s “End of Summer” BBQ. Everytime she makes a fruit salad, it’s basically 70% honeydew. Why do people act like that is a treat? In order to get to any of the good stuff you need to eat around all those green cubes. Can you offer some to your pup to get rid of it?
Yes honeydew melon can be given to dogs in moderation.
When you give your dog honeydew melon, always remove the rind. The rind is difficult to digest and can cause choking or internal blockages. Remove the seeds from the center or the melon. Seeds, especially for small dogs, pose choking or internal blockage risks. Cut the melon into chunks appropriate for the size of your dog.
Like all fruit, honeydew is high in sugar. Do not offer dogs that have diabetes honeydew.
Treat fruit like a treat given only occasionally and in small amounts. Offering dogs sugary fruit too often leads to unnecessary weight gain, diabetes and obesity. Obesity can lead to your dog developing pancreatitis.
